Blue Heron is a new 94,340 square foot elementary school, created in response to the growing population and development in Frederick County.
Built on a 15-acre site, Blue Heron has the capacity to house 705 students and features innovative, flexible, and technology-rich learning environments. The elementary school includes a media center, cafeteria, gymnasium, general classrooms, art studio, music classrooms, STEM lab and open collaboration areas. Large windows throughout allow ample daylight to permeate the entire building. The partial two-story building consists of a structural steel frame and brick cladding. The energy-efficient building is LEED Silver certified.
The new school also includes three playgrounds, on-site parking, a multi-use playing field and a paved play court. Additionally, it was designed to incorporate cutting-edge security and technology features including equipping the school with a wireless network infrastructure that provides seamless coverage and connectivity throughout all areas of the building.
